Time To Learn Ya A Little Something About Cash Money
Ahh man Cash Money back in the day!! Remember when they first started? Man it was just Juvenile, Wayne, BG, and Turk right? NOOOOOOPE. Seems that nobody knows about Kilo G, Lil Slim, Mr. Ivan, Pimp Daddy, UNLV, and even B-32 aka Baby. Now I'm not trying to say that youve missed out on lyrical masters who will wow you with every line. Never that. BUT! If you're a fan of Mannie Fresh beats like I am, you may find some gems. One of the coolest things to me was that Mannie sampled Herbie Hancock's Headhunters version of "Watermelon Man" on a UNLV track called "Pocket Full Of Furl." Speaking of UNLV, remember the Juvenile track "Set It Off"? That beat is from the UNLV track "Drag Em N Tha River"
Mannie has some killer beats on that album by the way (Uptown 4 Life). The other albums that I've listened to from the early CMR days have a fair amount of dope Mannie beats on them. A favorite track of mine is by Kilo G (RIP) featuring Pimp C (RIP) called "Release Me" off of his "The Bloody City" album.
Another funky ass track is by Mr Ivan (also RIP) ft Kilo G called "How U Kill" off of the 187 in A hockey mask album. Now once again Im not saying these guys are lyrical gods but these tracks are pretty cool to me.
That's just a few examples of how Cash Money sounded back in the day. Personally, Juvenile will always be my favorite to come out of CMR but it's always cool to hear where a record company came from. Learn a little history about them. Also if you want to hear what Baby sounded like in 1993 check out his "I Need A Bag Of Dope" album. I'm not saying it's good but it's fun to listen to for novelty purposes

Where Are They Now?
Today's Where Are They Now feature is Jemini The Gifted One. I'm sure a lot of you either don't know or don't remember who Jemini is. Well back in 1995 he put out a little EP called Scars & Pain with a crazy track called "Funk Soul Sensation." with a nice little beat done by Organized Konfusion. Check the video here to refresh your memory.
Whether you remember it or not (I don't i was 8 when it came out haha) it's a dope track. Of course after that it seemed that jemini faded into obscurity without ever being heard from again, right? Wrong. He actually linked up with Danger Mouse to release the album "Ghetto Pop Life" in 2003. Check this track from the album called "The Only One"
Dude hasn't lost a step. Seems that he hasn't put out an album since. He was supposed to release an album "Kill Your Heroes" in 2007 but it seems to have not been released. Hopefully we will still be able to hear another album from him.

I take forever to post...sue me. Anyway the A3C festival was rediculous. The whole beatminerz team was there, jarobi, 9th wonder, dj premier, diamond d, marco polo, skyzoo, torae, tiye phoenix, professor griff, big pooh...i mean damn! EVERYONE was there. It was a great time...got to hear a bunch of stories from Mr. Walt and Jarobi. Also ALMOST ALMOST ALMOST met Rakim. I hate telling the story because the ending sucks. Overall though it was a dope experience. Had a great time.

Get You Up To Speed
Oops...I totally neglected this blog for a while, so let me get you up to speed with whats going on in my life. Around april of this year I found out about the greatest radio show on earth call "Beatminerz Radio" Its located at www.ustream.tv/channel/beatminerz-radio so definitely check it out. I also made my first trip to the greatest city in the universe...New York City. While there I saw the craziest De La Soul show. While in the lobby I ran into the likes of DJ Premier, Rapper Big Pooh, Jeru The Damaja, and Pharoahe Monch. On stage they brought out Ali Shaheed Muhammed, Dres, Prince Paul, and DMC. Fast forward 2 days later and I found myself at a DJ Scratch/DJ Spinna Jay-z VS Biggie show. While there I was able to meet DJ Spinna and DJ Scratch. What an honor. I also got the honor of meeting DJ Mocha, Crazy DJ Bazarro, and once again, Pharoahe Monch. Awesome. That's really all that is new in my world. Next weekend ill be in ATL for the a3c festival so if I decide to use the blog again I'll definitely post some photos. Thats it for now. Peaaaace

Ice Cube
